It’s the Most Wonderful Time…

A merry and blessed Christmas to you all.  This year we got an extra special “gift”…. Reesie and I got to ‘reveal’ the gender of Lorien and Judah’s baby-to-be (heretofore named Grimlock by just-turned-5 year old Squid (aka Cedric).  I got to do the shopping and I wrapped the boxes and shipped them off for the big moment.

First…you must understand that Judah’s family only ‘makes’ boys.  That’s right, nothing but male children for countless generations.  They decided when Cedric was born they will adopt a girl if Grimlock is a boy; so either way they are going to be thrilled.  Cedric wants a brother. Judah can start his own ‘hockey team’ just as he and his brothers did.

8am this morning they got us on Skype.  Just me and Reesie here, my boys were still asleep, and them at Judah’s grandma’s house with his Grandma and his mom.  We are beside ourselves with excitement for the big reveal….for us, down here, so far from them up in New York, this is as close to sharing any of the excitement as we will ever be.

They got out the boxes.  Two.  One marked “Open second”  and the main box, with a tag that says “To Mommy and Daddy From Heaven”.  They had to unwrap two boxes to get to it. It’s a writer thing…building tension and drama for the ‘moment’, ha.  They open the lid…and there are layers of nice Christmas-y tissue paper…

And then… No automatic alt text available.

There was another foofy pink and a shirt to match…but this is the picture they took 😀

Lorien  was laughing/crying, Judah, standing behind her for moral support in their big moment quite literally melted down onto the couch beside her…both of them in shock and disbelief saying “a girl/ we got a girl”  His mom and Grandma were whooping and dancing.  It was soooo awesome to share in their joy at discovering that they were going to be blessed with a daughter.

Her name is Lyra…a name they chose for their first daughter back when they were waiting to see what Cedric would be. A name made all the more magical as she announced her arrival to coincide with the arrival of Oumaumau, the first known interstellar visitor to earth, which came from the constellation Lyra.  How special is that?

So in honor of our very special Christmas gift…may your holidays be blessed with joy and laughter and the truest gifts of the season… hope and love.

Merry Christmas.

Intertidal Magic

My friend, Melodye Shore, is quite the Renaissance woman… a gifted writer, an amazing photographer, a friend to bees, hummingbird ‘whisperer’, and now a budding expert on the intertidal zone, tidal pools and their amazing inhabitants.

So imagine my delight tonight when, in my usual eclectic way, I was perusing all the weird and widely divergent things that amaze and delight me…and here was this fascinating article on a critter from her neck of the woods… the lovely Lined Shore Crab.

Shore Crab

Immediately I thought of Melodye…and how magical such small places as our tidal pools are…on her western shore or here on the shores of the Lowcountry, or in other countries around this tiny blue world of ours.  So much precious life.  So much we don’t yet understand.  So much magic to be lost if we don’t protect it fiercely.

I vote for magic.  The more we can find and share… the richer our world….and our lives….become.

Friday fun, friends, and family

Today was the last day of VBS.  It was fun! I worked in doing the kids’ crafts all week and we finished up with a great one where each child made a (faux) leather bound journal to take home.  They loved it, it was simple enough for smaller kids but left lots of room for creativity for the more advanced/artistic children.

Afterwards Merrill and DeeDee took me to Mellow Mushroom for pizza.  We ate out on the patio but along the wall, not near the big open windows.  A late afternoon storm blew in…watching the approach of this huge wall of black cloud was amazing and then… it was on us!  Rain poured.  Winds whipped the rain through the windows, customers grabbed their plates and ran for shelter.  We sat and enjoyed the mist blowing over us on this hot summer afternoon….and ate our pizza.  Of course, DeeDee frizzed and my hair sprang into a tight mess of wild curls….but it was wonderful.  Such fun.

Then tonight our Little A called and we talked for ages.  About how he expects the hammock swing to be waiting when he comes home.  How he’d like to have one where he is nooowww.  (hint hint)  😉  About the color of his life jacket (red and orange) and how much he needs a new trampoline when he comes home.  It was wonderful.

Now I am off to murder some monsters with Khyr.  So here is our Friday Fantasy and I hope some of ya’ll love it and see the fantasy it opens for us all….

It’s a Magical Monday in JUNE!

So happy to see June arrive!  SUMMER in all its glory.  I have been working my butt off around the house…. dang! there was a lot of spring cleaning to get done!  But the end result is worth every agonizing night of aching muscles.

In the midst of my mad cleaning.. which lasted from daylight till 1 or 2 in the morning each day…I totally forgot the Fantasy Friday post.   I am ashamed.

I shall attempt to make up for it with a Magical Monday!

This one reminds me of dear Inithwyn….  and this amazing man and the magic of the flame
