A New Year…a new Beginning

An exciting year is before of us….filled with new wonders, new trials, portents, and changes.  And what a way to start things off but with the first Full Moon…a SuperMoon at that…and the thrill of the first corresponding King Tide!

I happen to love high tide…and King Tides are even more magical.

This is Charleston…amazing isn’t it?  And this street isn’t even very close to the beach, because the entire city is low, the water not only rolls in with the tide, it comes UP through the ground, the storm drains…

And it all began with the gorgeous Wolf Moon.

Shine on!  Examine the possibilities for greatness in your life this year.  For becoming the change you wish to see in the world.  Finding yourself, your voice, your passion… and shining before the world.

It’s a new year.  We can make it one to remember.

Finding Friday

Another week past…hard to believe almost the end of another month….another YEAR!  Where in bloody blue blazes did this one go?!

Considering that the phrase itself is a ‘stand in’ for hell…on second consideration that might not be sooooo far from true. Too much anger, too much sorrow, loss, pain, inhumanity in this year….all across our country and our world. Time passes so swiftly in these difficult times…and yet seems to drag on interminably.

For myself, I choose to hold tightly to the victories amongst the sorrow. The wee, small, quiet moments that assure me that life does indeed go on despite the vagaries of men.  My old dog snoring under my feet, as so long she has. Little A’s smile. Aleah and DJ playing in Peppa Pig’s dollhouse. Visiting the birds at the school. The song of the ocean, as it recalls God singing it into creation so very long ago.

The joys and sorrows friends have shared…that is beyond price.

The stories!  So many stories. Theirs. Mine. Ones we have read. What have you read this year?  What mark did it leave within you?

For now…my dear Khyr and his story are told. Upon the new year I shall edit and revise once more, with fresh eyes and an open heart…seeking to draw from those thousands of words the essence of what and who he is and the story he wishes to share.

And I have Truian to keep me company, so very different from Khyr. I never really imagined that world till now with its air ships and swift solar powered sailing ships, the steam-punk edge but without any of the grit and pollution….eco-punk?  I would love such a world.

He wants to be off sailing now. My heroes and their passion for water…yes indeed. I think I can encourage him to go for a swim yet before this year is over. Now there is a lovely fantasy.

Wicked Wednesday

And it has been such a wickedly wonderful Wednesday indeed.

  1.  School concert…and the little A had a special part playing the ‘blocks’ (?)  Not sure what they are actually called, but his music teacher says he really takes his part serious and it showed in his performance as he was intensely concentrating on what he was playing and soooo into the music.  It was wonderful.
  2. Weather continues to be pretty nice for mid-December.  Coolish…I remember lots of years when we were in tshirts and shorts for Christmas….but surely better than the horrid snows and bitter cold up north.  I am thankful.
  3. The poor laptop is being very ‘wicked’…it seems it has decided, once again, that is has had enough overuse and abuse from this writerly person. Six keys no longer have letters, and now it is being recalcitrant about staying connected to the internet.  An inconvenience at this point, but I see the writing on the wall…by next year I shall be madly saving for another laptop.  Grump.
  4. My protagonist is coming out of his shell and he deserves to be appreciated.  Along those same lines my dear Reesie and I finally got to go see “Justice League”…with the exception of the Superman line (no spoilers here…I just have never liked the character…not even as a child. Too smug.  Too condescending. Meh) the movie was great fun!  Cyborg is wonderfully drawn and way under appreciated in their ads and trailers.  I hope he gets his own movie.  The kid playing the Flash is adorable and his interaction with everyone, especially Batman (who thankfully finally gets to get out of being so dang dark and depressing and show some fun for a change), is great.  Wonder Woman is a wonder.  But, to no surprise among any who know me, my favorite of course is Aquaman.  Wow!  Again, vastly underused by the studio, but that’s okay… cause he has a movie next year and rocks every scene he is in.

Yep… that’s wonderfully wet and wicked for this Wednesday

Wicked Wednesday

There is a certain sensual quality to water.  The way it moves, sounds, feels as it caresses the body.  It’s rather a consistent player in my writing, I’ve noted.

It becomes a sensual escape.

Likewise, music that evokes the emotions water rouses within us provides an escape from the mundane and a fantasy in its own right.

Bring on the water…and let it sweep you into its wild embrace.
